Hithchwiki decía que debía tomar un tram hacia el sur y luego un bus gratis. El bus me costó 1PLN (0,25€) y ya que había un accidente en el bulevard que conducía al IKEA/TESCO me tomó poco más de dos horas en llegar. Una vez en la gasolinera me tomaría unos 10 minutos encontrar quien me llevara a Kraków. Casi 3 horas después estaba llegando. Envié varias solicitudes de couch pero todas fueron negadas. Comprensible. Mucha gente se regresaba a sus pueblos a pasar las navidades. Michal aceptó hospedarme empezando el lunes y cuando llegué a la ciudad era viernes.Busqué un café con Wi-Fi y envié un "emergency couch request". Para no hacer la historia larga, a las 22.30 ya estaba durmiendo en la estación de trenes que afortunadamente no era tan fría como la de Hradec Králové. Poco tiempo después recibí la llamada de Mateusz ofreciédome un lugar donde pasar la noche y quizá el fin de semana. Posteriormente me invitaría a pasar las navidades con su familia en Rybnik.
Hitchwiki said that I had to take a tram in direction south and then a free bus. The bus was 1PLN (0,25€) and since there's was a car accident on the raod that lead to the IKEA/TESCPit took me about two hours to get there. Once in the petrol station it will take about 10 minutes to find a ride to Kraków. Almost 3 hours lated I was arriving. I sent couchrequests but they were all turned down due to people going back to their hometowns to spend Christmas with the family. Understandable. Found a café with Wi-Fi and I sent an "emergency couch request". Long story short, it was 22.30 and I was already sleeping in the trains staion which luckily wasn't as cold as the one in Hradec Králové. Shortly afterwars I received a call from Mateusz offering me a place to crash for the night and maybe the weekend. Later he would invite me to spend Christmas with his family in Rybnik.
Los couchsurfers en Polonia son tan distintos a los de República Checa. Los CSers polacos son buena onda! Conocí a varios en el Food&Drink. Llegó mucha gente de varios lugares. Al fin pude hablar castellano de nuevo. Había un par de chicas, una colombiana y una brasilera. y Alvaro, un chico mitad cubano, mitad español. Luego conocí a Ania y volví a hablar en inglés. Kraków es una ciudad con mucha historia. Es aquí en donde está la fábrica de Oskar Schindler. Está convertida en un museo que por cierto, es gratis los lunes. Fue muy emotiva y sobrecogedora la visita al museo. Esa visita confirmó mi deseo de no ir a Auschwitz.
Polish couchsurfers are very different to czech CSers. Polish CSers are cool! I met several for the Food&Drinks event. There were people from all over. Finally I got a chance to speak in spanish. I met a couple of girls, one from Colombia and one from Brazil and Alvaro, half cuban, half spanish. Then I met Ania and I was talking english again. Kraków is full of history. It's the town where Oskar Schindler's factory is located. It's now turned into a museum, which by the way, it's free on mondays. The visit to the museum was emotive and overwhelming and confirmed my desire to not visit Auschwitz.
Caminé por todos lados. Con mis mochilas. Nunca había cambiado de host tantas veces como en esta ocasión. No sé si es tradición de Europa Oriental, pero aquí tambié hay un puento en el cual la gente cuando se casa deja un candado de recuerdo. El primero lo ví en Praga. Era un pequeñ puente de un par de metros de largo. El segundo fue en Wrocław, y era mucho más largo. El de Kraków es un puente normal, es decir, no peatonal sino que de vehículos y tranvías. Aparentemente, la tradición está comenzando porque no hay muchos candados aún.
I walked everywhere. With my backpacks. I've never had so many hosts like now. I don't know if it's an Eastern European thing but Kraków is not the exception when it comes to have a bridge where people when they get married they leave a lock attached to the handrail. The first bridge with this kind of "attraction" was in Prague but it was only a couple of meters long. The second one was in Wrocław and it was longer. The one in Kraków is a regular bridge open to vehicular traffic and it has a tram track. Apparently the tradition is just starting because there aren't many locks yet.
Ahora mientras escribo estas líneas estoy en Rybnik, al suroeste de Katowice. Donde vine a pasar las navidades. Mañana va a ser mi última noche en Polonia. Próximo destino: Cluj-Napoca , Rumania con una escala en Budapest. Si Wrocław me gustó y podría regresar en cualquier momento, Kraków me encantó y podría pasar aquí una temporada. Podría tener una bonita razón... Pero por el momento estoy en la búsqueda del sur, del clima cálido. Ya veremos que pasa...
Now, while I'm writing these lines I'm Rybnik,, southwest of Katowice where I'm speding Christmas. Tomorrow will be my last night in Poland. Next destination: Cluj-Napoca, Romania with a quick stop in Budapest. If I liked Wrocław and could go back anytime, I loved Kraków and I could spend some time here. I could have a pretty reason... But for now I'm heading south in search of warm weather. We'll see...
